This link from DIG appeared on RED the other day after appearing on DIG almost six months ago, but seeing it again reminded me of how badass Sam Lowe is. He came up in conversation the other day, and we all agreed that the ad above is what comes to mind when you hear his name. Read what David has to say about him, and check him out in Nice Try.

A while ago, I was shooting a photo with someone. They called the trick out, but were having second thoughts and were on the verge of backing out. Then Sam Lowe stepped in and told the guy that everyone knew he was scared. Now I’m paraphrasing, but Sam said that being scared, and saying “fuck it” was pretty much what BMX was about. The technical side of riding BMX is easy, finding something that scares the shit out you and conquering fear, is basically why we’re on these bikes. Now, I wouldn’t hold Sam to it, maybe he was just fucking with the guy’s head to make him step up. Either way, sincere or not, what Sam said stuck with me because I think it’s at least partially true of Sam’s riding. The technical aspects of bike riding do come easily to him, and he steps up his riding to the point that it scares the shit out of the people around him. As much as I assume it scares him, it’s a grave day indeed when he backs down from something he called out. – David H.
