Sour Fever - Chris Silva Interview

02.22.10 → Tags: x

Chris Silva hit me up about his new project and I thought I’d shoot some questions over and find out a little bit more about it. Check out his FUTU section above, and a quick interview about SOUR FEVER after the jump. Double whammy.

First and foremost, who are you, and what is the idea behind Sour Fever?
Chris Silva, Owner/Team Manager/Rider/Designer of Sour Fever, haha. The main idea was to start a clothing company based out of my house: designing, printing, everything here at home. I’m trying to give back to BMX and hook up great friends/riders who aren’t getting much support. “Sour Fever” is my realization of the fact that BMX has come to a point of having rules on what is cool and what is lame, when it should just be about riding bikes, being creative and having fun busting out.

Care to share any headaches / success stories about getting your tees printed? Who’s doing them for you?
I print everything myself on all my own silk screens. I can go on about horror stories from the past 2 months, everything from buying horrible blank apparel and going back to return all of it, finding out proper exposure times to burn screens, learning what paint works best with what colours (dark and light), even simple things like getting stickers made, it all takes so much time if you want to do it right. Success stories would be that I’ve made it to the point where I am now: Everything is done and ready. I’m so stoked to have made it to this point.

Fuck modesty, you’re a shredder. Where are you at with riding right now? Will bikes be taking a back seat to Sour Fever?
I always tell myself and close friends that I’m done or taking it easy from now on…yea right. I say that and then go out on my bike and ride and my mind wanders, then without realizing, I’m doing some big gap to wall or some crazy grind. Who knows what will happen, I’m not slowing down at all. My riding will definately not take a back seat to Sour Fever Clothing.

Who will I see wearing Sour Fever? I assume you have a couple guys in mind already.
I never like to let the cat out of the bag for anything or anyone, I like surprising people, but I’m sure by the time this interview drops everything will be up and running. As long as I’ve wanted to do Sour Fever Clothing I have only had 4 dudes in mind to ride for my “Pro” team and those dudes are some of my best friends and amazing fuckin’ riders…Jamie Burke, Ian Christison, Chijioke Okafo and Steven Moxley…I’m on the team as well, haha.

Top five inspirations for SOUR FEVER:
-Keaton for bringing stickers to the Warehouse 2 years ago. I scrambled the letters around to come up with Sour Fever, ever since then the meaning of the name has grown on me.
-Jamie Burke, that same night saying it was a sick name, haha.
-Seeing guys like Ian, Jamie and Steven who’ve really had no Sponsors and thinking that they deserve more.
-My girlfriend for making the first Sour Fever shirt for my Christmas gift.
-My girlfriend again, for pushing me to get Sour Fever rollin’ and helping me out with everything along the way.
